SHOEGAZE

Late 80s

Shoegaze is not a goth genre, but some important albums in gothic music are similar to shoegaze (Loveless from My Bloody Valentine).
The shoegaze emerged at the end of the 80's. It is generally characterized by distorted riffs, overdriven guitars. The vocal melodies can seem indistinguishable from the sound of the instruments. The name is sometimes used in a pejorative way, especially at the time of the emergence of the genre: it comes from the way guitar players look at their feet using an effect pedal.

Important band of shoegaze are My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, Lush and DIIV.
