NEW WAVE

Late 70s

The new wave emerged in the late 1970s and is rooted in the punk rock movement. At first, punk and new wave were even used as synonyms.
The origin of the term new wave can be found in the radical change in music that took place in the 1970s. While popular genres until then were classical rock, blues and progressive rock, in the late 70s, musicians began to add raw and electronic sounds to their songs (punk, krautrock, experimental ...).
New wave therefore refers to different styles of pop and rock. Some consider that it has lost its true meaning, which is why more specific terms are used, such as goth rock (The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees ...), post-punk (Joy Division, Pink Turns Blue...), new romantic (Adam and the Ants, Spandau Ballet...) ...
It should be noted that the definition of the new wave varies a lot and, like many genres, can be interpreted differently by everyone. If you have any suggestions for changes to make, don't hesitate to share them with us!
