EBM

80s

Electronic body music (EBM) is a musical genre that initially emerged in Belgium. The genre is characterized by harsh electronic sounds (synth), and by a play on the sounds produced by the voice (grunts, echoes, shouts...). The structure of the song is often clean and minimalist, both in terms of sound and voice. EBM is at the crossroads of different genres, including industrial music and synthpunk.
If the genre emerged in the 80s, it developed a lot in the late 90s.

Among the important bands are Front 242, Assemblage 23, Sonar, Project Pitchfork, Nitzer Ebb, Throbbing Gristle, DAF and Portion Control.
