GOTH ROCK

Goth rock is a genre that emerged in the late 1970s (a precursor band: Joy Division - although the band is more post-punk). The most used instruments are drums, guitar and bass, all with a catchy and rather dark rhythm. The lyrics generally evoke feelings (love, sorrow, pleasure, existential questions ...). A goth rock song can usually be recognized by the atmosphere it gives off (like many genres: dark wave, cold wave, dark techno...).
Important bands are The Sisters of Mercy, The Cure (Pornography and Disintegration), Bauhaus, The Damned, Siouxsie and the Banshees...
